SB 580/HB385 seeks to erode the existing protections and guidance established by Greyson’s Law

SB 580/HB 385 has passed through the House and Senate and is headed toward Governor Ron DeSantis’s office. The bill seeks to erode the existing protections and guidance established by Greyson’s Law, which allows a judge to stop custody exchanges if there is reason to believe one parent is a danger to their child or co-parent.

As Governor, Ron DeSantis has the power to veto this bill. If SB 580/HB 385 is enshrined into law, then Floridian children’s overall well-being and safety will be compromised due to abusers.

Governor Ron DeSantis’s office is open from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Please call during these office hours, as there is no after-hours voicemail option.

As a concerned community member, I urge Ron DeSantis to veto Senate Bill 580/House Bill 385. It’s crucial to recognize that there are no genuinely “safe” exchange locations when dealing with abusers, and this bill would set a dangerous precedent. The bill, as it’s currently worded, will erode the existing protections and guidance established by Greyson’s Law, and it will not prevent what happened to victims like Cassie Carli. In situations like Cassie’s, where parents pose threats, exhibit abuse, and neglect their children, those children should not be exchanged with such parents, at all!

While the legislation appears well-intentioned, I stand with Cassie’s family, domestic violence survivors like Ali Kessler, the mother of Greyson Kessler, and children, which is why I oppose this bill. Please listen to concerned Floridians and VETO SB 580/HB 385 when it comes to your office!
