Elected to the Brevard County School Board in 2020, Jennifer won her seat against a Republican in the GOP-dominated county running on teacher wages and COVID prevention.
Supporting inclusive LGBTQ+ school policies, she was attacked by Rep. Randy Fine (R-Palm Bay) for her policies, ultimately going national about the harassment she was receiving.
Interviewed on MSNBC and other national media outlets, Jennifer took her fight to social media after receiving many threats, a false report was filed against her for child abuse, and some reports even suggested a tree in her front yard was cut down and obscenities were burned into her front lawn. Her speech to the school board in October 2021 tweeted by lawyer and activist Ron Filipkowski (@RonFilipkowski) has been shared over 47,000 times with over 44,000 likes, catapulting her into the national spotlight.
Shockingly, after all of this and more, the State Attorney declined to press charges against Rep. Fine, who continued to go after her and point his most violent followers in her direction. (Sound familiar?)
Then in November 2022, the Brevard School Board flipped after Moms for Liberty, a far right extremist group promoting conspiracy theories and hateful rhetoric charged in, leaving Jenkins as the sole Democrat on the board. Jennifer enjoyed watching MFL self-destruct in January 2024 when their leader, Bridget Ziegler, was entangled in a sex scandal with her husband, the former chair of Florida’s Republican Party.
