And the GOP has put some infuriating bills on the table.

They’re coming for your human rights, reproductive rights, they want to control how you manage your birth control, and to be able to fill your public school curriculum with propaganda. It’s an upside down world and only YOU can stop the madness with your vote.

SB 1288: Parental Rights, by Senator Grall, and HB 1505: Parental Rights by Representatives Plakon & Kendall

Essentially a birth control ban for Young People, this legislation would restrict the freedom of young people to access birth control and STI testing. It also bans risk assessment surveys, hiding the real impact of these harmful restrictions.

The vast majority of parents know young people deserve accurate information to foster healthy relationships, not more hurdles to accessing birth control and reproductive health care. Politicians can’t mandate family communication. Most young people involve a trusted adult in these decisions, and for those who cannot, there is often a good reason – they may not have someone, or it may be unsafe.

SB 1284: Civil Liability for the Wrongful Death of an Unborn Child, by Senator Grall

The Trojan Horse for an all-out abortion ban, this bill proposes a personhood law that would define a “person” or “unborn child” as existing from the moment of conception or fertilization, and thereby grants the fetus certain rights or privileges under the law.

This bill is a solution to a nonexistent problem. The laws we have now already allow someone to sue and receive financial compensation for negligence and medical malpractice when they experience the loss of a pregnancy caused by another.

The normalization of “fetal personhood” will continue to lead to increased criminalization, surveillance, and extreme subjugation of pregnant people. SB 1284 could not only result in a full ban on abortion, but could jeopardize IVF, and access to lifesaving health care like chemotherapy, and lead to criminal charges for having a miscarriage. This sounds extreme, but we’ve already seen women face charges in South Carolina, Georgia, Ohio, Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and other states.

HB 1255: Education, by Representative Trabulsy

This bill gives propaganda a welcome mat right into our public school classrooms. Tucked within a very lengthy education bill is a requirement for students to view a deceptive, medically inaccurate video on fetal development being pushed across the nation by an anti-abortion extremist group. 

The group behind this misleading and medically inaccurate video, Live Action, is an extremist political operation that has long used lies and disinformation to advance its anti-abortion agenda — including forcing its way into classrooms. They have been suspended or banned from several social media platforms for spreading conspiracies and disinformation, and for posting graphic, fear-mongering content. They’ve been widely and repeatedly discredited for their inflammatory and doctored videos.
